On Friday, May 6th, the Cabrini softball team travelled to Grosse Pointe to face University Liggett in a CHSL doubleheader. The Monarchs came out on top in the first game winning 9-7 and then dropped the nightcap 8-4.
In the first game freshman Brianna Manning was able to overcome a sloppy game defensively by the Monarchs, who like their opponent committed five errors. She rung up 8K's, walked three and was charged with only one earned run. Manning contributed to her own cause with two doubles and an RBI.
Freshman Aryanna Sandusky continued her hit streak with three singles and two RBI. Senior Ella Nowc also had three singles and added a stolen base. Freshmen Sarah Neubecker and Morgan Frank also added singles, Jenny Day was HBP twice, shook it off and stole a base.
In the second game, the fielding was only a little better as the Monarchs had four errors which eventually led to six unearned runs. Manning began to tire and was a little off her game issuing 5 bases on balls, still she was only charged with two earned runs.
Schantz drove in the lone two earned runs for the Monarchs, with a double. Manning had a triple and Sandusky and Nowc each had two singles with Nowc grabbing another stolen base and Graf added a double to round out the hitting.
The Monarchs now head to Wixom for a league doubleheader at St. Catherine of Siena on Saturday, May 7th.
