On Wednesday the Cabrini softball team hosted Ann Arbor Fr. Gabriel Richard in a Catholic League semi-final game. The senior laden Richard team, which was missing one of their key players was no match for the Monarchs on this day losing by a score of 15-5, in game called after five innings due to the mercy rule being put into effect.
Junior Mackenzie Noah faced a tough opponent, but rose to the challenge striking out five, walking five, two of which were intentional and scattered seven hits. She also helped her cause at the plate with two hits and two RBI.
The Monarchs had a well balanced attack with numerous contributors. Junior shortstop Michaleigh Vallimont, who was fighting off the effects of a virus, was still able to score three runs and still steal two bases. Her sister, Freshman catcher Lilly Vallimont, had two hits, one of which was a long home run to right-center in the first inning, that accounted for the first two Monarchs runs. She also and scored four runs.
The junior class came up huge for the Monarchs. Second baseman Vivianna Gonzalez had another big day driving in three runs, with two hits and scoring three times. Third baseman Mackenzie Schick, first baseman Caleigh Muglia and centerfielder Emma Delcotto each contributed two RBI.
With the win, the Monarchs move on to the Catholic League finals to face Warren Regina at 6 PM on Monday at the University of Detroit. They follow that game up on Wednesday, on the road against Detroit Western International. Good luck Monarchs!
