Game One for Cabrini Softball vs Glen Lake in the John Schlosser Tournament

On Saturday, the Cabrini softball team traveled to Glen Lake for their annual late season tournament, facing both Glen Lake and Traverse City St. Francis.

In game one, the Monarchs jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with back to back triples by Junior third baseman Mackenzie Schick and Freshman catcher Lily Vallimont, who then scored on a groundout to the right side of the infield.

Glen Lake came back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first due to a couple of hard hit balls and some shaky fielding on the part of the Monarchs.  A home run by the number three hitter in the lineup in the fourth inning made it 4-2 and the Monarchs were beginning to feel the pressure. It stayed that way until the sixth inning when the Monarchs bats came to life.

Junior first baseman Caleigh Muglia reached based on an error by the shortstop, and then scored on a triple by senior left fielder Madison Buerkle.  Junior centerfielder Emma Delcotto then laid down a sacrifice bunt, the pitcher threw to third in an attempt to get Buerkle, but the throw was high resulting in an error, and Delcotto moving to second on the play. Schick then came to bat, and hit a hard grounder off the third baseman's glove, allowing Buerkle to score and with Delcotto moving to third. Schick then stole second and Glen Lake decided to walk Vallimont and take their chances against Junior second baseman Vivianna Gonzalez. It proved to be the wrong move.

Gonzalez drove a single through the right side of the infield driving in two more runs, which extended Cabrini's lead to 6-4.

The Monarchs struck for four more runs in the seventh inning. Muglia led off with a single to left, the last of her three hits in the game. She moved to second on an infield single by Sophomore Wyndhem Reid.  Delcotto then singled to right scoring Muglia with Reid moving to second. A single by Junior shortstop Michaleigh Vallimont loaded the bases.  Schick came through again driving in Reid and Delcotto with a single to right.  The scoring end with Michaleigh Vallimont scoring on a sacrifice fly to left  by her sister Lily.

Sophomore pitcher Mackenzie Noah shut down the Lakers in the seventh, as she finished with 8 K's .Final score, Monarchs 10- Lakers 4.
