On Tuesday, April 30th, the Cabrini girls took on Divine Child in a league contest at the Monarchs home field. With the TV show State Champs filming, the Monarchs didn't let their home base down, coming though with a 13-4 victory.
The Monarchs got the scoring with a leadoff home run by Junior Michaliegh Vallimont down the left field line. Junior Mackenzie Schick followed with a double to left center and came home on a single to left my Freshman Lilly Vallimont. Vallimont moved to third on a double by Junior Vivianna Gonzalez and scored on a passed ball. Gonzalez moved to third on the same play and scored a little later on another passed ball.
In the second inning the Monarchs scored their fifth run on a single by Junior Emma Delcotto a walk to Michaleigh Vallimoont, a sacrifice bunt by Schick and a wild pitch. Walks and small ball have a way of frustrating the most experienced.
In third, the Monarchs scored once again. This time the speed of Lilly Vallimont led to the scoring. Her speed forced the pitcher to hurry her throw, after a slow roller to the mound and subsequently Vallimont was safe on the error. Gonzlez followed that with her second hit of the afternoon moving Vallimont to second. Junior Wyndhem Reid then delivered a run scoring single to right center.
The fourth inning proved to be a wild one, as Divine Child proved that small ball causes problems for both teams. The Falcons scored three times on two singles and two errors by the Cabrini infield, one a sacrifice bunt.
But the Monarchs came right back in the bottom half of the inning scoring three more runs. A walk to Schick, followed by Lily Vallimont again reaching on a fielding error put two Monarchs in scoring position. Gonzalez came through again with a two run double, her third hit of the game and second double. Gonzalez then scored on a single by Sophomore Mackenzie Noah.
The fifth inning proved to be the back breaker for the Falcons. After scoring on a home run by their leadoff hitter, Hannah Zuk, to cut the Monarch lead to 9-4, Cabrini came back with a vengeance. Freshman Samantha Graf reached first on an error and went to second on a bunt single by Delcotto. Michaleigh Vallimont then hit a bomb to left center driving in Graf and Delcotto. The three run blast gave her two homers and four runs driven in. Not bad for the Central Michigan commit.
The icing on the cake came in the sixth inning when Reid drove a one out double to center and scored on Delcotto's third hit of the game, a single to left. Noah finished off the Falcons in the seventh by striking out two of the last three hitters. She finished with 13 K's and gave up only one earned run. The Monarchs next game is on the road against Ann Arbor Fr. Gabriel Richard on Thursday.
