On Friday, Cabrini took on the always dangerous and senior laden Ann Arbor Fr. Gabriel Richard team. Both games were very tight. The Monarchs took game one by a score of 3-1 as Sophomore Mackenzie Noah shut down the scoring team from Ann Arbor with 11 strikeouts. Junior Michaleigh Vallimont paced Cabrini with a solo home run among her 2 hits and 2 runs scored. Her sister, freshman Lilly Vallimont and Noah drove in the other two runs.
The second game was a battle that saw the Monarchs take it on the chin, after falling behind early, 3-0, after the first three Richard batters strode to the plate and all scored. But to their credit, Cabrini made a valiant come back from a 5-1 deficit to tie the score in the fifth inning. Unfortunately, a drive by Richard in the top of the seventh inning cleared the left field fence and led to a tough loss for the Monarchs. Noah wasn't as effective to start the game for Cabrini, but she bore down after those first three hitters to strike out nine batters and give up just 3 more runs the rest of the game. Michaleigh Vallimont again homered, scored two more runs and contributed two more hits. Lily Vallimont also homered, her fifth of the season and drove in two runs.
The Monarchs next opponent is league rival Riverview Gabriel Richard on Tuesday, a doubleheader, in Riverview. They end the following week with a double header at home against Farmington Hills Mercy.
