Monarchs Softball Double Header vs Regina HS

The Monarchs traveled to Regina for a doubleheader on Friday and came away with a split against the Division 1 team with a rich history in softball. It was a battle with Cabrini winning the first game 4-3 and dropping the second 13-8.

In the first game the Monarchs were led freshman Lilly Vallimont who had 2 hits, including her 4th home run of the year, drove in 2 runs, and scored twice including the winning run on a beautifully executed squeeze bunt by sophomore Mackenzie Noah. Juniors Michaleigh Vallimont (2 runs scored) and Mackenzie Schick (2 hits) also were key contributors to the effort. Noah who started and completed her second game of the year, struck out 12.

Game two was a battle from the beginning, with Regina scoring 6 runs in the first inning. The Monarchs game right back scoring two runs on a home run by Mackenzie Schick, one of her two hits. Mackenzie Noah also hit one out of the park and contributed 2 RBI. But the Vallimont sisters were at it again. Lilly had three hits, but the big blow was from Michaleigh who blasted a grand slam home run to left center. She also scored twice in addition to her two hits. Unfortunately after Cabrini pulled to within one run, Regina kept coming back and tacked on three additional runs.

Coach Debbie Norman said that while she appreciated the offensive outburst and never say die attitude of her players, and despite two nice catches by senior outfielders Madelyn Buerkle and Madelyn Kugelman and junior first baseman Kaylie Muglia robbing Regina of a double down the line, there was still room for improvement,  No doubt some things will be tweaked by Tuesday when the Monarchs travel to Divine Child for another double header, and then face Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard on Friday.
