Varsity Swimming Results vs Allen Park

On Thursday,Feb. 20th, the Cabrini Monarchs ended their dual meet season in traditional fashion against the Allen Park Jaguars.  As always, the evening was filled with excitement and emotion as both teams honor their parents and all the seniors.  With seven of our athletes competing in their home pool for the last time, it put a special feeling in the air that influenced everyone to push a little harder.  The evening turned in 78% of our performances as season or personal bests. It was another great performance for the Monarchs.  Unfortunately, even our best was not enough to overtake the Jaguars.  The dual meet finished: Allen Park 102 St. Frances Cabrini 77.  Here are some of the highlights for the Monarchs from the meet.

The evening started with Cabrini turning in their second fastest 200 Medley Relay of the season as Lily Heath, Thomas Day, Daniel Misovich and Evan Trohimczyk swam their way to a strong second place to kick off the meet with Misovich PRing in his butterfly leg of the relay.  Day's evening continued as he stepped back up to swim the 200 Free swimming a PR that cut 11 seconds from his old mark placing him second.  Freshman, Ben Luna also PR'd in the event, dropping 17 seconds. Trohimczyk stepped up next and swam a season best time in the 200 IM also placing second.  Misovich and Day stepped up again in the 50 Free finishing third and fifth respectively.

In Diving, Grace Sabo turned in a second place performance with teammate Grace DeBerardino placing 4th with her second best score of the season. Heath lead Monarch teammates Max Iglesias and Luna s to three PR performances in the 100 Butterfly placing 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.  As the Monarchs moved into the final quarter of the meet, our 200 Free Relay team of Trohimczyk, Misovich, Tanner Pogorzelski and Day stepped in and scored our second fastest time of the season placing second with Misovich PRing again in his leg of the relay.

Trohimczyk stepped onto the starting block one final time in the 100 Backstroke scoring a SR placing 3rd. Misovich jumped onto the blocks for his final individual swim in the 100 Breaststroke finishing third and scoring one final SR.  Teammates Lauren Schulte and Tony LaGreca also put in a PR performances in the event.  In the final event, the 400 Free Relay, Cabrini's Pogorzelski, Iglesias, Kyra Roth and Niko LaGreca placed 3rd with Roth and LaGreca swimming a SR in their legs of the relay.  As for us coaches, the night was a complete success.  It put us in the perfect place to be going into our end of the year taper as we head toward our League Championships.

The Monarchs will take to the road and travel to the Livonia Recreation Center for the Catholic League Championships on Friday, March 6th and will then travel to Dundee to compete at the SMISL Championships on Saturday March 7th.
