On Tuesday, the Cabrini Monarchs traveled to Riverview for a dual meet with the Pirates. The evening started for the Monarchs with a solid second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay by the team of Lily Heath, Thomas Day, Daniel Misovich and Evan Trohimczyk. Following that up with a 1 - 3 finish in the 200 Free with Tanner Pogorzelski and Niko LaGreca, a 1 - 2 punch by Trohimczyk and Misovich in the 200 IM, a 1 - 4 in the 50 Free by Day and Heath and a 2 - 3 in Diving by the Grace Sabo and Grace DeBerardino, the Monarchs walked away from the first five events tied at 38.
After taking heavy losses in the 100 Fly and 500 Free, Cabrini fought back in the 100 Free with a 2 - 3 finish by Trohimczyk and Pogorzelski and a first place finish in the 200 Free Relay by Day, Misovich, Heath and Trohimczyk. In the final three events the Monarchs scored two second place finishes in the 100 Back and 100 Breast by Heath and Day respectively and a third place in the 400 Free Relay by Niko LaGreca, Kyra Roth, Max Iglesias and Riley Bonar. When the battle ended, the Monarchs ended up on the short end falling to the Pirates by a score of 104 to 78.
The team fought through the entire evening, never letting up scoring 68% of our swims/dives as personal or season best records. Some of our best time drops came from our rookies. Taylor Bonar, Marin Genaw, Christian Campitelle and Javier Hinojosa all had multiple PR's for the evening. It was great to see our newest making huge improvements in the heart of our season when we needed it most.
On Saturday, the Monarchs traveled to Belleville High School for the 2020 Tiger Invitational where no team points are kept while putting the best in the area together as they battle against the clock for a spot in the top 16.
Cabrini started the day with a season best time, placing 6th in the 200 Medley Relay by Lily Heath, Daniel Misovich, Thomas Day and Evan Trohimczyk. The "B" Relay team of Chloe Roth, Niko LaGreca, Max Iglesias and Tanner Pogorzelski followed that performance up by placing 16.
In the 200 Free Pogorzelski PR'd finishing 14 and cutting 6 seconds off his previous time. Next the Monarch sprinters took stage in the 50 Freestyle placing 3rd, 7th and 15th by Trohimczyk, Day and Misovich respectively with Day and Misovich scoring PR's in the effort. Trohimczyk would step up next in the 100 Freestyle and score a 5th place in the event.
Day, Heath and Misovich teamed up with Trohimczyk for a 4th place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay with Heath scoring a season best split in the effort. Heath then followed that up with a PR in the 100 Backstroke to finish her day in the pool. In his final swim of the day, Misovich placed 15th in the 100 Breaststroke scoring a season best swim for his effort. In the final event of the day the relay team of Niko LaGreca, Max Iglesias, Krya Roth and Pogorzelski finished 15th with Pogorzelski crushing his PR by almost 2 seconds.
It was a productive day in the pool for everyone on the team with 76% of our swims turning out to be season or personal records. It was a great day to be a MONARCH!
Cabrini's next test will be this coming Tuesday when they travel to Whitmore Lake for a dual meet with AAGR/Greenhills Coop. The Monarchs follow that up with a trip to the Wayne County Invitational at Grosse Point South HS this Saturday.
