This year's Downriver Classic was filled with spectacular  performances.  Here are the top 12 highlights turned in by the Cabrini Monarchs.
The day started with the team of Lily Heath, Thomas Day, Daniel Misovich and Evan Trohimczyk placing 8th in the 200 Medley Relay.  Trohimczyk and Day quickly followed that up with a 3rd and 10th place finish in the 50 Freestyle respectively.  The swim also scored Trohimczyk a Wayne County cut time.
Following the sprint freestyle, Diver Grace Sabo grabbed an 8th place finish in Diving.  The performance also gave her a PR for 11 dive competitions.
Two events later Trohimczyk jumped back in the pool in the 100 Freestyle and logged another 3rd place and another County cut time. Trohimczyk finished the day in the 200 Freestyle Relay with his Medley Relay teammates Heath, Misovich and Day scoring a 4th place finish which ended up being our top performance in the relay events.
The Monarchs next lightning strike came in the 100 Breaststroke when Thomas Day dove into the pool seeded 12th in a field of 27 and hopped out finishing 6th dropping over 5 seconds and setting a personal record and earning him another individual swim at Wayne County.
In the final event of the day, the team of Max Iglesias, Riley Bonar, Kyra Roth and Niko LaGreca finished 8th in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
I was extremely happy with our team effort today.  The team turned in over 70% of their performances as PR's or season best swims.  Some of our newest members turned in multiple PR's for the day. We couldn't have asked for more.  We pushed them hard this week, they were all tired and sore but still delivered when they needed to.  They kept us in suspense for the entire meet.
Cabrini's next performance will be this coming Tuesday as they travel to Riverview for a dual meet with the Pirates.  On Saturday, the Monarchs will travel to Belleville to compete in the rescheduled Tiger Invitational.  GO MONARCHS!!
