Cabrini Monarchs Swimming & Diving Team Downriver Classic

On Saturday, the Cabrini Monarchs met the rest of the downriver high school swimming and diving community at the 2019 Downriver Classic hosted by Allen Park high school.  This year’s field welcomed back last season’s teams along with Edsel Ford to round out the field of nine teams.  Taylor Co-op was the only Boys team that did not attend.  Here are the team results for this year’s event.  Gibraltar Carlson 273, Trenton 222, Riverview 165, Woodhaven 164, Wyandotte 161, Allen Park 156, Edsel Ford, 109, Cabrini 63 and Lincoln Park 46.  The Monarchs turned in PR or SR performances on 62 % of their entries. Those were exceptional results for us considering the successful performance we turned in at last week’s Tiger Invitational. Here are the top 12 finishes on the day for team Cabrini.

The day started off with a season best swim by our 200 Medley Relay team of Cate Day, Daniel Misovich, Joe Misovich and Evan Trohimczyk who turned in a time that bettered their old mark by nearly 1 ½ seconds.  Daniel Misovich and Trohimczyk also had season best splits during the event.  Trohimczyk then went on to the 50 Freestyle where he and Thomas Day placed 7th and 9th respectively with Trohimczyk again setting a season best mark.  The Monarchs diver, Grace Sabo then stepped onto the diving board and placed 8th turning in her own season best performance.  Following Diving, Joe Misovich turned in a season best time in the 100 Butterfly cutting a second and a half off of his time, placing 10th and qualifying for the Wayne County invite.  Then Trohimczyk stepped back on the starting block in the 100 Freestyle and turned in a personal best time that netted him an 8th place finish and a birth to the Wayne County invite.  Trohimczyk’s final swim came in the 200 Freestyle Relay where he teamed up with Joe Misovich, Thomas Day and Lily Heath to place 6th in a field of 34 relay teams.  The Monarchs Jonas Raiha then jumped into action cutting time off his personal best mark, placing 12th and earning himself a spot on the Wayne County invite team.  In the final event of the day, the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Thomas Day, Lily Heath, Daniel Misovich and Joe Misovich turned in an 8th place finish that earned the Misovich brothers personal best split times and a season best time for the that group of four swimmers.  It turned out to be another successful Saturday for the Monarchs.

The Monarchs next test will be when they travel to Cranbrook Kingswood this coming Thursday for a double dual meet between Cranbrook and Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard.
