The Cabrini Monarch swimmers & divers traveled back to their home pool this Saturday to compete in the Warrior Invitational with eight other team from the Detroit Metro area. This year’s event welcomed two new teams to the event, Wayne Memorial and Cass Tech. The new additions added nicely to the strength of the competition. The Monarch coaching staff went into the event with a mission to allow our swimmers to experience events they would normally not swim to expand their experience portfolio. The science experiment was a great success, yielding 41 season (SR) and 19 personal (PR) records for the day. It was fantastic to see how climbing a bigger mountain made the day to day hills less of a challenge. It was a great way to end the competition for this portion of the season and head into the Christmas practice schedule. Team scores from the day: Woodhaven 229, Monroe 215, Dundee 186, Wyandotte 180, Riverview 169, Cass Tech 116, Wayne Memorial 99, St Frances Cabrini 84, Allen Park 81.
Here are the individual highlights (top 12 finishes) from the afternoon. The day began with the divers taking to the pool first and the Monarchs Grace Sabo turned in another great performance, placing 5th in a field of 18 competitors. At noon, the swimming events began with the 200 Medley Relay team of Cate Day, Daniel Misovich, Joe Misovich and Evan Trohimczyk scoring an 8th place finish and equaling their own season best swim. Cabrini’s next points came from Evan Trohimczyk in the 200 IM where he placed 3rd, netting himself a bronze medal. Trohimczyk also teamed up with Thomas Day, Daniel and Joe Misovich to capture 2nd place with another season best performance and a silver medal in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Trohimczyk then finished the afternoon with a 10th place finish in the 100 Backstroke. In the 50 Freestyle, the Monarchs Daniel Misovich, turned in an SR finishing 9th and then followed that up with anaother SR performance in the 100 Breaststroke finishing 10th. Senior, Joe Misovich also turned in an SR performance in the 100 Butterfly that netted him an 11th place finish. The Monarchs also scored a 9th place finish in the 100 Freestyle with an SR performance from Thomas Day. In the final event of the afternoon, the Monarchs once again thrilled their fans with another incredible finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay. The team of Thomas Day, Chloe Roth, Lily Heath and Jonas Raiha raced to an 8th place finish and set two PR splits in the process with Heath and Raiha crushing their old marks by nearly a second each. It was a fitting end to a productive day.
The Monarchs will next compete on January 8th when they travel to Wyandotte Roosevelt high school for a double dual meet between the Wyandotte Bears and Riverview Pirates.
