The Cabrini Monarchs traveled to Dearborn Heights Crestwood to open their season at the Charger Relays and came away with a first place finish. Team scores were: Cabrini 92, Fordson 76, AA Gabriel Richard 60, Redford Union 42, Crestwood 38 and Garden City 20. Heres a wrap up from the meet.
After only 10 days of practice, the team swam extremely well as a whole. We expected to have a good showing but didn't expect to end up winning it all. It was a great surprise from an outstanding effort by everyone. Out of the nine total events the Monarchs placed in the top three in eight. Of the 15 relay entries submitted, the Monarchs beat their seed time in 11 of them. Here are some of the individual highlights.
Cabrini started the day with two second place finishes from their 200 Medley Relay team of Cate Day, Daniel Misovich, Joe Misovich, Evan Trohimczyk and the 600 Freestyle Relay of Chloe Roth, Lauren Baird and Daniel Misovich. Next, the Monarchs turned in a pair of first place finishes by the 400 Individual Medley Relay team of Rachel Zarb, John Phan, Lexi Assenmacher, Cate Day and the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Joe Misovich, Lily Heath, Thomas Day and Evan Trohimczyk. Cabrini finished fourth in the 200 Butterfly Relay team of Rachel Zarb, John Phan, Max Iglesias and Lexi Assenmacher and followed that up with another first place finish by the 200 Backstroke team of Cate Day, Riley Bonar, Lily Heath and Chloe Roth. Next the 200 Breaststroke team of Lauren Baird, Lily Heath, Rachel Zarb and Thomas Day, finished second. In the final event of the day, the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Joe Misovich, Daniel Misovich, Thomas Day and Evan Trohimczyk pulled off a come from behind victory to shatter their seed time and rack up the final first place finish of the afternoon. It capped off a great day to be a Monarch!
The Monarchs next test will be this coming Saturday when the team travels to Dundee High School for the SMISL Relays.
