Cabrini Track Traveled to Lutheran Westland HS to Participate in State Regionals

On Saturday, May 21st, the Cabrini Track team participated in state regionals competition at Lutheran Westland High School. The following athletes qualified for States on June 3rd. The Girls 4x8, with Senior Lily Heath (an Aquinas commit for swimming), Freshman Grace Kendziuk and sophomores Nicki Teed and Ava Teed, took 1st place.  Senior Ania Ghazzawi took 2nd in Discus.

The Monarch girls continued their strong performance when they took 2nd place in the 4x2 with Ghazzawi, Junior Niamh O'Connell, Sophomore Lyn Dang and Senior Ella Nowc completing a strong finish.  Ava Teed continued her march toward Cabrini school records as she took 1st place in both the Girls 1600 and 3200.  Kendziuk, in only her first year of compettion also placed 2nd in the 400.

On the boy side, Junior Chris Russelburg raced to easy victories in both in the 3200 and 1600.  Junior Oswaldo Nava finished 2nd in the Discus.

Head Coach Zander Pollack was extremely pleased by the performances, top to bottom of this combined teams. "They have made great strides this year. The coaching staff has worked hard to prepare them for these meets and they have risen to the challenge. I can't say enough about Ava Teed and Russelburg.  They set the tone for their races and then just wear down their competition.  We will miss our senior girls, but we have no doubt our underclassmen will step up next year and build on what we accomplshed this year.
