On Saturday, May 22nd, the Cabrini track and field team traveled to Lutheran Westland High School to compete at the Regional Championship for a chance to advance to the State Championship. Although met with a hot day, the Monarchs were still able to put up a strong performance.
The boys team finished with a school best of second place in the region. Field events started the meet strong with Senior Billy Eigemann taking first place in discus (112' 6") and second in shot put (34' 1.25"). Senior Pratham Patel finished fourth in discus (90' 0") and Junior Bram Wolf finished fourth in long jump (16' 10.75"). Running events were led by Sophomore Christopher Russelburg taking first in the 1600m (4:50.26) and fourth in the 3200m (11:51.96). Senior Thomas Day was able to finish third in the 110 hurdles (17.30) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (50.76). Relays rounded out the performance with a first place finish in the 4x800m relay from Sophomores Brayden McKay and Logan Eiden, Wolf, and Christopher Russelburg (9:11.57).
The girls finished out a very tight race to take second place in the region. Field events were led by Senior Mary Dziewit taking first in high jump (4' 8") and fellow Senior Alana Maffesoli taking second in both discus (85" 0") and shot put (28' 11.5"). Running events dominated in the distance with Freshman Ava Teed taking first place in both the 1600m (5:39.66) and the 3200m (12:27.74) while Junior Lily Heath took first place in the 800m (2:42.85). Dziewit took second place in both the 110 hurdles (20.49) and the 300 hurdles (54.95). Relays all finished with strong performances as the 4x800m relay team of Heath, Alana Maffesoli and Freshmen twins Nicole and Ava Teed took first place (11:20.5). The relay teams took second in both the 4x100m (56.56) and 4x200 (2:00.29) and third place in the 4x400m (4:50.99).
