The Cabrini Track and Field team has made the most of their season thus far. Although only having a few competitions the boys team find them selves ranked second in the region. On the boys side, athletes such as Sophomore Christopher Russelburg who is currently first in the region in the 1600 meter run and the 3200 meter run. Senior Billy Eigmann is currently leading the region in Shot Put. Fellow Senior Thomas Day finds himself second in the region in both the 110 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. Rounding out the team, the 4x400 meter relay consisting of Senior Max Iglesias, Sophomore Brayden McKay, Day and Junior Bram Wolf is looking at a 2nd place finish at the regional championship. Along with regional rankings Russelburg is ranked in the state in both the 1600 meter run (25th) and the 3200 meter run (24th). Day is currently ranked 23rd in the state in the 300 meter Hurdles.
The girls team is also putting up strong performances. Freshmen Ava Teed currently leads the region in the 3200 meter run and is second in the 1600 meter run. Senior Mary Dziewit is currently second in the region in both the 100 meter Hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. Fellow Senior Alana Maffesoli leads the region in Shot Put as well as Discus. The 4x800 meter relay consisting of Maffesoli, Teed, twin sister Nikki Teed and Junior Lily Heath are currently first in the region. In addition to regional rankings, Ava Teed is state ranked in the 1600 meter run (10th) and the 3200 meter run (5th). Likewise, Maffesoli is state ranked in Shot Put (12th) and Discus (16th).
The Monarchs will compete at the Downriver Championships this weekend at Wyandotte High school.
