Monarch Hockey Traveled to Dearborn to Take on Dearborn Unified

 On Monday, Feb. 14th, the Cabrini/Riverview Hockey team traveled to Dearborn to face the Dearborn Unified team. The Monarchs/Pirates skated to a 4-3 victory over their hosts, but it was a come from behind victory, as Dearborn scored first, taking a 1-0 lead into the 2nd period.

 

The second period proved to be a different story, Senior Hayden Kieltyka scored the first goal for the Monarchs/Pirates with assists by Sophomore Hayden Holmes and Senior Gabe Livernois.  Livernois, with assists from Kieltyka and Holmes put the team up 2-1 with a power play goal and the second period ended with the score 2-1.

 

Dearborn was not going away that easy, and tied it early in the third period. The game was getting intense with both teams playing aggressive close checking hockey. Then, Junior Daniel Contreraz.

came up with a beautiful goal, taking the puck down the right board, beating a defenseman and cutting in front of the net before tucking it behind the Dearborn goaltender for a 3-2 lead.

 

Dearborn was not to be denied however, scoring just 30 seconds later to tie the game. But then, with just 1:47 left on the clock, Senior Braeden Goers scored the game winner for    Cabrini/Riverview, with  assists by Junior Kyler Worley and Contreraz.

 

Senior goalie Josiah Dembrosky stopped 24 shots in the victory, which lifted the Monarchs/Pirates to a 13-10-1 record. Their next game is Thursday, Feb. 17th, when they host Dearborn Divine Child at Kennedy Ice Arena in Trenton and prepare for the state tournament.
