Cabrini Hockey Sweeps Weekend Series Against Divine Child

It was a huge weekend for the Cabrini Monarch's hockey team who swept a home in home series against Divine Child by winning 5-1 on Friday night and again on Saturday night by a score of 8-4. After starting the season just 1-7 before Christmas, the Monarchs have now won three consecutive games to start the second half of the high school hockey season.

The weekend was highlighted by Senior forward, Luke Metropoulos, who racked up 8 points in both games (5 goals, 3 assists) including 4 goals in the first period of Saturday's game.

Friday's game started with the Monarchs scoring 5 unanswered goals after a scoreless first period. Sophomore forward Hayden Kieltyka opened the scoring in the second with a beautiful shot on an odd man rush. Kieltyka would also add another goal later in the third period. Senior defenseman, Evan Taylor secured the game winning goal on a breakaway while the Monarchs were short handed Friday night. Taylor also had an assist earlier in the game as well. Senior defenseman, Nick Brown capped off the scoring with another goal late in the third period with assists from Seminara and Metropoulos. Junior goaltender Brandon Hiuser made 15 saves on 16 shots Friday night.

Saturday's game opened with a flurry of shots from Divine Child including the first goal of the game that was scored just 90 seconds into the game. The Monarchs then answered back with six unanswered goals including a natural hat trick from Metropoulos and a nice breakaway goal from Senior forward, Evan Estes. Senior defenseman, Nick Brown also added a goal early in the second period. Brown also had 2 assists in the game. Divine Child answered back in the third period with three consecutive goals during a barrage of Monarch penalties. However, Sophomore forward, Andrew Seminara secured a Monarchs victory by scoring two goals just 24 second apart late in the third period. Hiuser also had 16 saves on 20 shots Saturday night.

The Monarchs will take the ice again on Wednesday, January 8th against the league leading Riverview Pirates at home (7:10pm) and will face off against University Liggett at home on Saturday (5:00pm) in a Catholic League game.
