The Monarchs Varsity Hockey team ended their home opener on Wednesday night with a 3-3 tie against Ann Arbor Pioneer. The Monarchs opened the game with Senior Captian, Alex Teed scoring the first goal while getting assists from Evan Taylor and Nick Brown at the 12:47 mark. After then giving up two goals to Ann Arbor Pioneer, the Monarchs tied the game at 2 when Junior Forward, Luke Metropolous put a blistering wrist shot past the Pioneer goaltender at the 10:43 mark. The Pioneers answered back on a powerplay to go up 3-2 about a minute later. Then Senior, Captain, Zach Bagozzi tied the game up with just 25 seconds left in the 2nd period with a big slapshot from the blueline. The third period went scoreless and both teams competed incredibly hard in an intense 8-minute sudden death overtime period which ultimately ended in a 3-3 tie. Sophomore Goaltender, Brandon Hiuser, started in net for the Monarchs stopping 17 of 20 shots including a handful of big saves in the overtime period.
