The Monarchs varsity baseball team opened up league play under the lights against Detroit Cristo Rey at the Corner Ballpark (Old Tigers Stadium) last night. Cabrini swept Cristo Rey with the scores of 14-0 and 11-0. The Monarchs were led by two dominant pitching performances from senior Alex Nealey and junior Nick Ballas, who both completed shutouts against the Wolves. Nealey would record 12 strikeouts, while Ballas had 11 strikeouts himself.

On the offensive side, there were several contributors to get 25 runs across the board through 10 innings of play. Senior Alex Nealey was 3 for 6 with 5 RBIs on the night. Senior Jimmy Fister added 3 hits himself with 4 RBIs. Juniors Bobby O'Guin and Evan Taylor, along with senior Logan Fryz, each added 3 hits to the offense. The Monarchs will resume play in a non-league game at South Lake High School this Thursday, April 4th at 5PM!
