Varsity Bowling Headed to State Regionals in Tecumseh

On Saturday, Mar. 20th, the shorthanded Cabrini Boys and Girls Bowling teams competed in the state regionals in Tecumseh. Both the boys and girls teams were missing their respective captains.  Additionally, the boys were missing another veteran bowler, all due to contact tracing.

Despite missing these key components of the team, the Monarchs put up a good fight. Overall, the boys finished 5th out of thirteen teams. Sophomore Nathan Radke paced the Monarchs with games of 211 and 208, which placed him 4th overall out of sixty-three bowlers who participated in the regional. With that finish, Radke moves on to the state finals next week in Canton.

Sophomore David Kowalski finished 22nd overall, while three freshmen, Wyatt Korndorfer, 33rd, and Josh Hancock 40th, and Charles Kieselbach 50th, (both bowling their first competitive matches of the year), enabled the team to place five bowlers in the top 50 overall.

On the girls side, they also had a strong showing, finishing 4th overall out of ten teams. Freshman Brianna manning led the way with a high game of 193 good enough to finish 5th overall out of 47 bowlers and also qualified for the state finals next week. Junior Samantha Graf just missed the cut by ten pins and sophomore Jordan Downham missed by sixteen pins. Sophomore Lilia Barcenas 32nd and Junior Isabella Cafini 35th overall rounded out the Monarch scoring.

All in all, a good day for the Monarchs, and a strong finish on a wild season. Coach Josh Jablonski was beaming as he talked about his bowlers. "The freshmen boys stepped up without having much if any competitive bowling, and the girls, one who has been virtual for a while, came together as one. It was a great moment for me as a coach to see the growth in this team, and how they took the lessons learned from their captains, who couldn't even be there, and apply them to such a strong showing. Now it's on to the state tournament!"
