March 13th the Varsity Bowling Traveled to Westland for the CHSL Championship

On Saturday, Mar. 13th, the Cabrini Bowling team traveled to Westland to participate in the CHSL championships.  On the Girls side, the Monarchs faced Madison Heights Bishop Foley in the semi-finals and swept them in two games, 136-129 and 171-156. That put them in the finals against Chesterfield Austin Catholic who had defeated Riverview Gabriel Richard in the semi-finals.

 

The Monarchs struggled out of the gate, but won the first match 126-117.  They rebounded In the second  game, but lost 160-142. It came down to the rubber match with Cabrini prevailing with a 135-114 victory and being crowned Catholic league champions.  The girls were paced by sophomore Jordan Downhan who rolled games of 194, 169 and 160. Junior Samantha Graf kicked in with a high game of 154. 

 

On the boys side, the Monarchs reached the finals for the second year in a row, but lost their title to Bishop Foley.  In the semi-finals, the Monarchs defeated Gabriel Richard in two games 183-117 and 140 -121 to reach the finals.  Bishop Foley defeated Detroit Loyola in straight sets to reach the finals.

 

The Monarchs started out strong, winning the first game 135-128, but Bishop Foley came back in a big way defeating Cabrini 190-150 in the second game. The third game was a seesaw match with Bishop Foley hanging on to a156-151 win. The Monarchs were led by Sophomores David Kowalski 205-191 and Nathan Radke, with two games of 182 and a 190. Senior Matthew Heath rounded out the top bowlers with scores of 179 and 169.

 

On Mar. 19th the Monarchs travel to Tecumseh for the state regionals and hopefully berths in the state finals the following week in Canton.
