Varsity Boys and Girls Bowling Heading to States Regional Tournament

This past weekend the Cabrini Boys and Girls bowling teams traveled to Tecumseh to compete in the State regional tournament hosted by Britton-Deerfield. The boys team finished 5th missing the state finals by 80 pins, with a nine game total of 3256. The girls team finished ninth with a 2389 pin fall in their nine game series.

Individually, the girls team had a few standouts. Freshman Jordan Downham rolled a 964 series, highlighted by a 202 game, to finish 4th overall in the regional and qualify for the state tournament. She was one of only two freshmen in the regional to qualify for the state tournament. Sophomore Samantha Graf, a newcomer to competitive bowling, rolled an 875 series, with a high game of 192, to finish 10th and also qualified for the state tournament. She also was one of two sophomores to qualify.

The boys also placed a bowler in the state tournament, as Freshman David Kowalski rolled a 1043 series, highlighted by a high game of 203.  Kowalski was the only underclassman to qualify for the tournament finals from this regional. Three other bowlers, Sophomores Evan Pogorzelski and Chris Stevens and Freshman Nathan Radke finished in the top twenty-five.

Coach Josh Jablonski said it was an amazing finish for his young bowlers and very emotional for the first time qualifiers. With such a young team, he is looking for even better results next year. The state finals will be held on Saturday in Lansing at the Scot Arms Bowling center.
