On Saturday, April 3rd, the Cabrini Girls soccer team hosted Detroit Cristo Rey in their home opener, a CHSL contest.  Though shorthanded, the Monarchs played solid defense. Freshman goalie Maddy Glazier and the Monarchs defense were able to hold Cristo Rey scoreless.

In the first half, sophomore Niamh O'Connell scored the Monarchs first goal with assists from freshman Nicole Teed and fellow sophomore Elaine Teed. In the second period Elaine Teed scored off a corner kick.

Coach Taleb Karauoni said he was glad the girls got the first game under their belt after having last season canceled. "They were a little rusty, but we'll come back stronger next game. We just need to work out some of the kinks and get the full squad back, and we'll be fine.  

With the Easter break upon us, the Monarchs next match is Wednesday, April 14th when they travel to Marine City to face Cardinal Mooney.
