Cross Country State Regionals

On Friday, October 30th, the Cabrini Cross Country boys and girls teams participated in the state regionals at Chandler Park in Detroit. The boys took first place by two points over Birmingham Roeper. Junior Bram Wolf ran a season best 17:47 to finish 2nd overall. Sophomores Chris Russelburg and Brayden McKay both ran personal bests of 17:59 and 18:53 respectively to finish in the top fifteen overall.  Logan Eiden and Greg Pomponio each finished with sub-20:00 times, while Brendan Fix and Nathan Neubecker finished with sub-21:00 times.  All seven Cabrini runners finished in the top 50 overall.

The Boys team are now back to back regional champions.  The team is currently ranked 21st in the state in Division Four. Wolf is 75th overall and Russelburg cracked the top100 as well.

On the girls side, the Lady Monarchs finished 2nd overall to Clarkston Everest Academy by 18 points. The girls were led by Freshman Ava Teed, who finished second overall with a time of 19:39, a personal record. Junior Lily Heath finished at 20:56, a season best, and finished in eighth place overall. Junior Ella Nowc rounded out the top three Cabrini runners with a time of 21:20, also a season best. Nicole Teed finished with a personal record of a sub-22:00 time. Ania Ghazzawi and Niamh O'Connell finished with season bests and Alana Maffesoli rounded out the Girls team with the entire team finishing in the top thirty.

The girls are now ranked eighth in the state in Division Four. Ava Teed is 8th overall, Heath 53rd and Nowc 83rd. Coach Zander Pollack could not be more pleased. "This is still a young team, with these runners just coming into their own. We only have two boys and one girl not returning from varsity, so we're looking for even greater things next year. But make no mistake, this has been a special year."

The Monarchs advance to the state finals at MIS Speedway in Brooklyn on Saturday, November 7th. Go Monarchs!
