Boys and Girls Cross Country Catholic League Championship

On Saturday, October 17th, the Cabrini Cross Country team participated in the Catholic league Championships. The girls, with another strong showing by Freshman Ava Teed , who won the Catholic league championship, took 3rd place out of eight teams competing. The boys team took 5th place out of nine teams
 
On the girls side, Teed with a time of 20:16, finished first overall. TShe is now within 48 seconds of the school record.  Junior Lily Heath took 12th overall with a time of 21:25. Junior sisters Ania and Angel Ghazzawi, Ella Nowc and Freshman Nicole Teed all finished with times under 22:00, finishing 23rd through 26th.  On the JV side, Sophomore Niamh O'Connell took first place with a time of 23:12, while Senior Meghan Carr and Junior Abby Portman also had top ten finishes.
 
All of the girls had season bests while two girls had personal bests. Teed is now within 48 seconds of the school record. Eight of the girls are ranked in the top thirty in the region, with Teed currently 3rd. Overall the girls team is ranked 2nd in the region. Teed is ranked 18th and Heath 67th in the state, while the team as a whole is 11th in their division. 
 
The Boys were led by Sophomore Chris Russelburg with a time of 18:00, good for 9th overall. Just six seconds behind him was Junior Bram Wolf, who finished 10th overall. Sophomore Braden McKay rounded out the top three for Cabrini with a time of 19:34, good for 28th overall. On the JV side, Juniors  Christian Campitelle and Kyle Fust both finished in the top twenty with times under twenty-eight minutes. All nine runners, both varsity and JV ran season bests.  Russelburg and McKay along with two other runners achieved personal bests.   
 
Currently Russelburg and Wolf are ranked in the top ten in the region. The team as a whole is ranked 3rd in the region and 25th in the state in their division.
 
The Monarchs next competition is Thursday, October 22nd, in St. Clair County for the state pre-regionals.  Winners move on to the regionals on Friday at Chandler Park in Detroit.
