On Friday, March 4th, the Cabrini Girls basketball team faced off against Riverview Gabriel Richard in a District final held at Gabriel Richard. It was a battle between two evenly matched teams, with Cabrini coming out on top 47-42.

Senior Ania Ghazzawi, Junior Mary Schantz and Sophomore Kaitlyn Jabczenski  led the offensive attack, all scoring in double digits. Ghazzawi had 12 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. In addition to Schantz's 11 points, she dominated defensively with 16 boards and 4 blocked shots. Jabczenski had 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 4 assists.

Senior Ella Nowc had 8 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals in another impressive performance for a shooting guard. Freshman Carly Roth came off the bench to score 4 points, pull down 11 rebounds and also had an assist.

Coach Karen Jabczenski said the defensive performance was the highlight of the game for her. "Our backups prepared us for a tough game and a tough team. Though we played with a short bench, it was a true team effort. Everyone pulled together for this victory. The energy from our student body and the support of our parents was amazing!"

The Monarchs now face Detroit Voyageur on Tuesday, March 8th at 7p at Ecorse High in a Regional semi-final.
