On Wednesday, Feb. 10th, the Cabrini Girls basketball teams traveled to Riverview Gabriel Richard as a long delayed season finally got under way. With limited spectators allowed, it was a bit of a surreal feeling in such a long standing rivalry. In the first game, the Junior Varsity prevailed 33-26, in a close game and earned first year coach Mackenzie Shick her first coaching victory. The Monarchs led most of the game and held off a comeback attempt by the Pioneers late in the fourth quarter.
The varsity game on the other hand was much different. It was a see saw battle through the first quarter with the Pioneers taking a 16-12 lead at the end of the first half. The Monarchs came out in the second half and took back the lead and eventually gained the win by a score of, 33-29. The girls were led by Junior Ania Ghazzawi with 18 points and senior Bella Norscia-Ziembiec who had five points and six big rebounds. Freshman Kaitlyn Jabczenski had a key 3-pointer midway through the 4th quarter to fire up the Monarchs.
The Monarchs next games will be Saturday Feb. 13th when they host Royal Oak Shrine. Go Monarchs!
