On Tuesday, Jan. 14th, the Cabrini Girls basketball team hosted Ann Arbor Greenhills in both varsity and JV games. In the first game, the JV lost a heartbreaker, 35-32. They led for most of the game and were protecting a 6 point lead with just under two minutes to go. Unfortunately, a couple of untimely turnovers and missed shots led to the defeat. Freshmen Elaine Teed, with 8 points and Niamh O'Connell with 6 points led the Lady Monarchs.  Sophomore Ella Nowc contributed 6 points as well. Coach Morrone said, " We just need to slow down the pace in the closing minutes and we'll be fine. Once we learn how to close, the girls will settle down.  It's a young team, but I see improvement every game."

In the second game of the night, the Lady Monarchs won 32-22.  Cabrini Senior Emma Delcotto led the scoring with 8 points and 6 steals. Freshman Mary Schantzalso scored 6 points came up big with 9 boards on the defensive side. Senior Ava Hazimeh was a defensive miser, holding her assignment, Greenhills leading scorer, to just one point. Coach Marc Strong was very impressed with the overall pressure his Lady Monarchs applied and hopes to carry it over to the next game. 

Both the varsity and JV teams will travel to Riverview to face Gabriel Richard, Thursday, Jan. 16th. It's a 6p start for the JV and a 7:30p start for the varsity. Go Monarchs!
