On Tuesday, Jan. 21st, the Cabrini Boys JV basketball team squared off against a short handed Dearborn Heights Star International squad. The game started out like a track meet for the Monarchs who at one point opened up a 21 point lead. To the credit of Star International though, their players stepped up and cut the lead to 4 points at halftime.
After a halftime meeting, that appeared less than congenial, the Monarchs came out firing. Coach Joe Osmulski re-instilled the fire in the belly of his Monarchs and his team responded with a 52-33 victory. Sophomore Kamren Shoemaker led the attack with 17 points. Fellow sophomore Derek Ballas and Freshman Jack Delaney had six points a piece. Coach Osmulski said that he was pleased with the play of the team in the second half. "We had a discussion at halftime about playing with passion and stepping up our defensive pressure. It appears the message got through.", said Osmulski.
The Monarchs next game is Friday at Inner-City Baptist at 5:30. Then they are back at it on Tuesday, Jan. 28th, at 4:30, when they travel to Flint to take on Powers Cahtolic.
