On Wednesday, Feb. 16th, the Cabrini Boys Basketball team hosted Cranbrook in a non-league game. Though the Monarchs came out on the short end of the score, they came out way ahead when it came to helping others less fortunate.
The team requested that any spectators attending the game bring a box of pasta to help supplement the Fish and Loaves Community Food Pantry in Taylor. Every attendee was given a discount on the ticket and were also treated to a nice surprise. Former World Boxing Organization and International Boxing Association Light Middleweight Champion, Bronco "Superman" McKart, who also won the UBO Middleweight title, participated in a ceremonial jump ball prior to the start of the contest.
McKart, a Monroe native, also nicknamed the "Downriver Diamond", who fought out of the world renowned Kronk gym, gave a pregame speech to the boys and stayed around for pictures with both teams and the officials. He also took time to intermingle with the fans, and still looked fit enough to go more than a few rounds with his younger counterparts.
Most importantly though was the fact the over 75 pounds of pasta were presented to Fish and Loaves, a very worthy charity. Anyone wishing to contribute to this organization can reach them online at FLCFP.org, or stop by the pantry at 25670 Northline, in Taylor and lend a helping hand. Once again, a big round of appreciation to Bronco McKart, both Cabrini and Cranbrook schools, and especially everyone who donated their time, effort and food stuffs to make this a successful event.
