On Wednesday, January 16th, the Cabrini basketball team hosted Chesterfield Township Austin in a non-conference game. The Monarchs came out on top 52-33. Senior Kameron Shoemaker led the attack with a double double, 10 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. Juniors Owen Tomsic and Jack Delaney were also major forces in the victory. Tomsic had 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Delaney had nine points and nine rebounds. The victory capped off a successful CYO night, where all the kids from the middle school were invited to cheer the Monarchs on.
Coach Justin Decremer said after the game, "Our message going into the game was to start with high energy, especially on defense. Turn defense into offense. That's exactly what we did. We had great balance in our scoring with 10 different guys getting in the scoring column. With the student section rocking, in part thanks to our CYO players and the other students from the middle school, we were able to feed off of that energy. Add a season high 16 offensive rebounds and 15 steals, and that translates into a good win. I was also very happy with the effort from our three sophomores. Now we just need to keep the momentum going into Friday night's game."
The Monarchs travel to Detroit on Friday, January 28th for a league contest against Cristo Rey.
