On Friday, December 17th, the Cabrini boys basketball team hosted Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes. Early on the Monarchs struggled, but they came back in overtime to win by a score of 52-49. After being down 13 to 2 at the end of the first quarter and down 16 at one point in the second quarter the Monarchs outscored the Lakers 20 to 11 and trialed 24 -22 at the half. Senior Kamren Shoemaker led the team with 18 points off the bench. Juniors Brayden McKay with 8 points, Owen Tomsic and Cameron Heath with 5 points a piece led the offense attack. Juniors Ben Maffesoli and Jack Delaney were rebounding machines holding the Lakers in check. Another Junior, Trevor Waltonbough hit one of two free throws with 1.8 seconds on the clock to put Cabrini up by 3 points and seal the victory.
It was a great win for the boys, who unfortunately were without their head coach Justin Decremer, due to illness. Junior Varsity Head Coach Joe Osmulski who had to step in due to Decremer's illness, said, "The fans for both schools had the gym rocking. it was a great night for Catholic League Basketball." The Monarchs game scheduled for December 21st versus Ann Arbor Cental Academy had to be rescheduled due to Covid concerns in Ann Arbor. Cabrini next plays at Airport on December 30th.
