On Tuesday, Feb. 23rd, the Cabrini varsity boys basketball team traveled to Chesterfield for a game against Austin Catholic. The Monarchs game out victorious with a 61-19 win. The Monarchs were led by Senior guards David Egged and Chris Courtwright who each scored 11 points. Sophomore guard Owen Tomsic also netted 11 points. Overall it was a very balanced attack by Cabrini throughout the game.

On Wednesday, Feb. 24th the Monarchs hosted a very good Cristo Rey team and fell 84-50, in a game that started out very close. Cabrini was within two points at the end of the first quarter. However the bench strength of Cristo Rey finally wore out the hard charging Monarchs.

Senior guard Kevin Johnson and sophomore guard Owen Tomsic each had 16 points to pace the Monarchs. Cristo Rey’s pressure forced too many turnovers that Cabrini was unable to overcome. Head Coach Justin Decremer said, “We did a good job in the first quarter breaking the press, but Cristo Rey forces you to play fast and cause mistakes. But this team fought the entire game and that has been a constant from day one.”

The Monarchs next game is Saturday, Feb. 27th, when they host Grosse Pointe University Liggett at 2p.
