On Friday, Feb. 20th, after the first four games of the season were cancelled, the Cabrini Boys basketball team returned to the hard court with a victory over visiting Waterofrd Our Lady of the Lakes, 61-52. The Monarchs had to come from behind with a big fourth quarter as they out scored the Lakers 23-13, to earn a nine point victory. Junior guard Kameron Shoemaker led the scoring with 24 points. Sophomore guard Owen Tomsic had 13 points, Sophomore forward Jack Delaney and Senior Kevin Johnson each tallied 9 points.
Head Coach Justin Decremer was impressed with the overall team effort. “I expected a slow start and some sloppy play and that’s what happened in the first half. This was our first game and the guys were really nervous. But we settled down nicely in the second half and the 4th quarter we made some nice shots and had a few key stops on defense. The effort was there from start to finish and we will keep working in practice to improve where we need too.”
The Monarchs after a tough loss to Cristo Rey on Saturday will square again with them on Wednesday, Feb. 24th at home as part of a triple header that will feature both the girls JV and varsity teams. Games start at 5p.
