The Monarchs boys basketball teams took it on the chin in their contests against Livonia Clarenceville on Dec. 10th. In the first contest, the JV lost a close battle by a score of 40-34. Sophomore Joel Corvaia and freshman Owen Tomsic led Cabrini in scoring, with each putting up 12 points.
In the nightcap, the varsity lost by a score of 63-39. Seniors Nick Ballas with 13 pts., Bobby O'Guinn with 9 pts. and Andrew Riha with 8 pts., led the team in scoring. Down early by 12 pts Cabrini came back to cut the lead to 25-21 at halftime. The second half they were outscored 38-18.
“We got off to a slow start but got into a rhythm toward the end of the first quarter and into the 2nd. Unfortunately we were not able to keep up our intensity in the 2nd half", said first year head coach Justin Decremer. "I thought Clarenceville played extremely hard. Their defense set the tone for them and they didn’t back down. We just had a hard time matching their effort for 32 minutes and that was the difference tonight.", he said. "We'll make some adjustments going forward and look for better results in the next game."
The Cabrini varsity's next game is Friday at Detroit Cristo Rey, Dec. 13th at 7:30.
