Cabrini Track & Field Headed to University of Liggett

The Cabrini Track and Field team headed to University Liggett for their second league meet of the season on Monday. The Monarchs continue to show improvement in their results.

 

The boys were highlighted across the board by juniors. Christopher Russelburg took first in both the 1600m and 3200m (4:42.88 and 10:19.01 respectively). The distance runners for the boys recorded multiple personal records, including Brayden McKay setting a new season best in the 800m run to take sixth (2:19.66) and Octavio Orozco running a 2:41.87 to finish 14th place in the 800m. Emiliano Nava set a new personal best in the 3200m to finish 10th (14:03.73). The sprinters rounded out the night with Owen Tomsic running a 13.06 (fourteenth) in the 100m and Senior Joey Berro running a 26.97 in the 200m.

 

Throws also concluded with Senior Luke Osman taking seventh place in shot put with a throw of 30-07 and another junior, Oswaldo Nava taking tenth in discus with a throw of 71-02. Jumps brought a strong appearance with Senior Bram Wolf taking first in the long jump with a new personal best (18-03)..

 

The 4x200m boys relay, consisting of Junior Tony Russo, Berro, Wolf and Senior Nathan Neubecker took seventh place with a time of 1:45.65. The 4x800m boys relay placed third as McKay, Orozco, Freshman Ralph Kaleniecki and Russelburg combined for a time of 9:35.99.

 

The girls were highlighted by Sophomore Ava Teed finishing first in the 3200m and breaking a 33-year old record by more than 10 seconds (11:50.38). Teed also took first place in the 1600m with a new season best of 5:36.04. Freshman Grace Kendziuk ran a blistering new personal best in the 400m to finish third (1:07.86) while Senior Lily Heath took seventh in the 800m with a new season best of 2:57.87. 

The sprinters recorded a thirteenth place finish as Freshman Ellie Heath ran a new personal best of 16.12 in the 100m and Junior Niamh O’Connell recorded a new personal best in the 200m (31.23).

 

The girls field events were highlighted by Senior Ania Ghazzawi throwing two new personal bests taking fourth in shot put (25-07) and second in discus (76-08). The Freshmen duo of Maeve O’Connell taking seventh in shot put (23-06) and Kaitlyn Korndorfer taking ninth in discus (53-10) rounded out the girls field events.

 

The girls' relay, led by Ghazzawi, Lily Heath, Niamh O’Connell and Freshman Antonina Pizzo put together a time of 5:13.51 in the 4x400m relay to finish fourth. The 4x800m relay team of Lily Heath, Kendziuk, Ava Teed and Sophomore Nicole Teed finished second with a time of 11:16.67.

 

The Monarchs travel to Dearborn on May 7th to compete in the Mark Carpenter invite hosted by Divine Child.
