Girls Varsity Tennis
Game Summaries & Headlines.
On Saturday, May 15th, the Cabrini Tennis team competed in the CHSL finals. It was long day and it wasn't so much the score that mattered, but the sportsmanship displayed by both the Cabrini coach, Kim Beluzo and player Clare Villareal. The girls were tied and her opponent, a player from Divine Child, suddenly became ill and woozy. The Monarchs graciously waived the timing rule in an effort to allow the match to continue. A delay of approximately 40 minutes ensued before play resumed. The senior opponent regained her strength and went on to victory over the Monarch sophomore.
After the victory, the Divine Child player was overcome with emotion and began to profusely thank Villarreal– it was a great moment. That is what exemplifies good sportsmanship and what the Catholic League represents. This was an example of the kind of behavior that the MHSAA encourages. It was a great day to be a Monarch.
