Monarchs Hockey Defeat Knights in Late Season Match Up

The Monarchs and Knights faced off in a rematch from the Catholic League Championship game on Saturday afternoon. Oddly enough, the game also ended in a similar fashion with the Monarchs defeating the Knights in overtime by a final score of 6-5. Evan Taylor opened the scoring for the Monarchs about ten minutes into the game in unassisted fashion. He intercepted a Knight's pass and scored on a blistering wrist shot that beat the Knight's goaltender on the far side. Just 24 seconds later Luke Metropoulos scored on a great passing play from line mates, Alex Teed and Austin Molina. About 15 seconds after the Monarchs took a 2-0, the Knights answered back to pull within one heading into the first intermission. The Knights would then tie the game early in the second period and exchanged blows a few more times with the Monarchs in the second period. When it was all said and done, the Monarchs were able to pull ahead by one heading into the third period. About a minute into the final period, Freshman Andrew Seminara scored on a rebound to put the Monarchs back ahead by two. That lasted until about the 9 minute mark when the Knights continued to battle back by scoring again. Then within the last few minutes of the game, the Knights were awarded a penalty shot after a tripping penalty by Zach Bagozzi. After scoring on the penalty shot to tie the game, both teams would head into overtime for the second time in the last two weeks. However, this game would end a little faster than the last overtime match up between the two teams. Freshman, Hayden Kieltyka ended the contest just a minute into the overtime period with a backhand goal right in front on the Knight's net. It was Kieltyka's second goal of the game.

The Monarchs victory gave them a final regular season record of 12-11-2 and they would end of season by winning three of their last four games. Giving them some momentum heading into their first playoff game which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 26th at 5:00pm at the Arctic Coliseum in Chelsea, MI against Livonia Franklin.
